Hebrew Bible and the Fire Department


As I pour through my assignments for Hebrew Bible, I am steeped once again in the “big ten”—the Ten Commandments. The scholars dissect and analyze, teaching me what is apodictic and what is casuistic in the list. They remind me that these things make for the life and health of the community.  However, I have to say that none of them make the important connection between “Thou shalt not lie” and the fire department as well as Garrison Keillor did this morning with this:
