An Islamic Voice
I have an Islamic professor friend that shared part of his struggle earlier in life with me yesterday. He said he used to wonder if there were other alternatives to “Hellenistic rationalism and Hebraic Messianism.” Part of his point was he felt like these were the only options available to him at that time. Beyond the two dominant views he grappled with, we know there is a dizzying array of options on the menu when we’re talking about worldviews.
Still, I think this is a great prompt to bring to my Christian church, because we draw our identity from one of the traditions he cited.
Do you empathize with anything he might have been reacting to in “messianism”? Could an Islamic voice help push us Christians to a different or better understanding of Jesus? I’m thinking “yes, yes, yes!” What do you think?
